I Did Not Vote For This President

Thu Sep 13, 2007 at 06:21:37 PM PDT

Re-posted from my blog, randomduck.com  I've been veering increasingly into the "workout log" aspect of my blog, but there are times when I'll dive back into politics - like now.  It's my own little rant, fueled by hearing the lies spouted forth by our so-called "Commander in Chief," just off-the-cuff stuff.  Enjoy!

Halliburton moves = Contracts with U.S. Gov't Void

Mon Mar 12, 2007 at 06:16:26 PM PDT

Just a thought: if congressional Dems really want to show some cojones, why not have them draft a bill that states the following:

If Halliburton moves its headquarters and financial roots to the United Arab Emirates, all contracts said company has with the United States government shall be null and void.

Granted, it doesn't stand a chance of being signed by the numbskull in the White House, but it would be a start.

And fine: let Waxman and Co. have their protracted (and warranted) investigation; but show that we, the people, don't want to be fleeced by tax evading weasel companies, either.

Any thoughts?

RIP Lloyd Bentsen

Tue May 23, 2006 at 08:18:29 AM PDT

According to ABC News, Sen. Lloyd Bentsen has died.  He was 85 years old.

Bentsen was a fun character, and will always be remembered for his dressing down of Dan "Potatoe" Quayle in the 1988 veep debate.  He was also Secretary of the Treasury under the Clinton administration (1993-1994).

Bentsen was a World War II veteran, having flown in numerous B-24 bombing missions over Nazi-controlled territory.

Rest in peace.

Obama Wins Grammy

From Grammy.com:

Best Spoken Word Album:

Dreams From My Father
Senator Barack Obama
[Random House Audio]

Congrats to Sen. Obama and his recording staff!  He was up against some heavy-hitters in the Spoken Word category.

The award was one of the myraid awards announced prior to the telecast.

SCOTUS: Rehnquist has cancer

Mon Oct 25, 2004 at 10:22:27 AM PDT

So what does this add to the fire:

If anything, Kerry, Edwards and Clinton need to work this into their stump speeches and get the word out that both executive and legislative change is needed.

I'd hate to see Bush pull a fast one if he loses.  I'd hate it even more if he fulled a slow one if he wins.

DC-area Kossacks: vote Tuesday!

Mon Sep 13, 2004 at 08:30:42 PM PDT

To all DC-area Kossacks:

Tomorrow is the D.C. Democratic primary election.  Amongst the offices up for grabs are seats on the D.C. Democratic State Committee (DCDSC), the District's official Democratic organization.

I urge you to vote for members of the Running Against Bush slate.  I am a member of this slate (running in Ward 2), and I urge you to vote for us to bring positive change to the DCDSC.  Our group, largely made up of newcomers to D.C.-area politics, will help bring D.C. the respect it needs.

Why vote for me and for the Running Against Bush slate?

Roll Call Breakdown - Link?

Wed Jul 28, 2004 at 09:47:17 PM PDT

Does anybody have a link to a list with the state-by-state breakdown of tonight's roll-call vote?

It's tough to keep up with these things when "The Daily Show" is on against the beginning of the vote.  Not to take anything away from the DNC delegates, but the TDS crew is infinitely more entertaining.  After a full day working at Democratic GAIN, I needed some humor.

Thanks in advance!

For DC Dems who observe the Sabbath...

Fri Feb 13, 2004 at 04:11:15 PM PDT

The DC Caucus is tomorrow, February 14, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Unfortunately, this timing is not good for those who observe the Sabbath - they will not be able to vote without breaking the Sabbath.

However, the DC Democratic State Committee will allow those who observe the Sabbath to vote TODAY, February 13, until 5:00 pm.

You can vote at the DCDSC headquarters (499 South Capitol Street, SW - Room 412).  The DCDSC HQ is a short walk from the Capitol South or Navy Yard Metro stops.

More Post-Primary Thought From DC: The Caucus

Thu Jan 15, 2004 at 12:49:27 PM PDT

Some things to ponder for the Caucus:
  • With eight majors (plus a few fringe folk) in the February 14 caucus, how well will Dean do?
  • What about the Wards south of the Anacostia - will Dean be able to actively court support in these areas that were overwhelmingly pro-Sharpton?
  • Will the five who sat out the Primary actively court the DC electorate?
  • Who will still be in the running on February 14th?
  • Will folks from NoVA come out to support their troops in DC?  Their primary is on February 10.
  • Will the turnout break ten percent?  Given that the Caucus is on a Saturday (and, ostensibly, a "holiday," if you count a Hallmark-fed saint say as such), will it bring out the voters?
  • Am I missing something?
Comment away!
