I am for Hillary. This is bad news for her because when I am for a Presidential candidate they invariably lose. I hope this outcome is different. I do not like to write for it is very hard work but sometimes one has to get some things off one's chest. This dairy is not just about my support for Hillary, though I will explain my reasons. It is also about what it means to me about being a Democrat and a member of the Dkos community. There are four organizations that I claim I belong to. I do not belong to them because the people are perfect. I belong to them because I admire the values represented by these organizations though I sometimes fail to live up to them. The first is Alcoholics Anonymous which is really my church, the second is the Democratic Party, the third is Swords to Plowshares, a veterans organization, and last is the Dkos community.
I was watching Hannity with Norman Mailer being interviewed with his son. Ole Norman basically said if you voted for Bush you were stupid, I think it is more complicated than that but what got me was Hannity, as he always does, came back with what is clearly the height of dumbassness that Ronald Reagan won the Cold War. Norman did not challenge him on it. I am sick and tired of people letting this idea go unchallenged. I propose a new IQ test with only one question. The rest on the flip.
On Eric Alerman's MSNBC's Altercation as writer named Brad wrote:
"One question, though, aside from collecting taxes (and spending same) and (arguably) defense, what else has the federal government excelled at?"some text
I get so tired of the wingnuts nonsense that I wrote back:
Most of my adult life I have been a truck driver. I used to run halfway to Los Angeles from the Bay area 5 days a week. On the way back I would often times meet up with 3 other truckers who were right wing born again Republicans and they would always try to convert me to their version of Christianity. I will tell you up front my beliefs can be found in Alan Watts' book, "The Book". The thing that always got me about these guys is that they were not about ideas of Jesus but the body of Christ. They were hateful, racist and to anyone that disagreed with them mean spirited to a degree that was frightening. They were typical Republicans in that they loved Jesus but did not like what he said. This is the core of how the Republicans and the Religious Right have subverted who Jesus was and what he was.
I have long been appalled at a typical Kossack lack of compassion. Almost every post you read on dkos about the pantywaists (Republicans, GOP, Gaggle of Pantywaists) is a mean-spirited diatribe on the cowardice of the pantywaists. Kossacks are like General Patton when he slapped that soldier in North Africa. As a Democrat and especially a Kossack one generally is a member of the warrior class. The main character defect of a Warrior is that he or she thinks everyone else is. Pantywaists simply do not live in the same world as you or I do
It is really quite simple when you look at the big picture. Name a country that has a thriving middle class that is based on Conservative values. There has never been one in the history of mankind. They all end up like Mexico or worse. Very few rich and mostly very poor.
I think the new charges against Delay were not brought because Ronnie Earle thought Delay could get off on the original charges. Delay said on Meet the Press about how they laundered the money and that "Everybody does it". I am not a lawyer but I do not think "Everybody does it" defense works very well in a real court. I am willing to bet that all Mr. Earle had to do is show the tape of Meet the Press and got the indictment. I would love to see it being played at his trial. Any lawyers out there with an opinion?
It seems to me that economic and spiritual values are much related. 25 years of attacking the middle class is starting to bear real fruit. We are a petroleum based economy. Reagan was rescued by the halving of the price of oil. Will the rise of oil prices coupled with the tax cuts be the straw that breaks the camel's back? Are the politics of greed going to turn us into Mexico?
